The Benefits of a Gluten-Free Diet for Gut Health

A gluten-free (GF) diet may offer relief from digestive and other symptoms in people with coeliac disease and gluten sensitivity. It may also benefit those with/at risk of autoimmune disease or other inflammatory or immune-mediated conditions.[1,2].
Natural healthcare practitioners often recommend a GF diet to identify if gluten is contributing to patients’ symptoms. By triggering zonulin secretion in the gut, gluten causes inflammation and damage to the intestinal wall, resulting in digestive symptoms.[2]
In non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, intestinal and systemic symptoms such as fatigue, skin rashes, joint and muscle pain are shortly relieved after gluten avoidance.[2]
